In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Portland Alzheimer’s Association.
Leroy Mauratt, “Lee”, lived his entire life in Portland, a city he loved and served. He graduated from Roosevelt High School and then joined the Navy, serving on the War Hawk (AP-168). He was discharged as an Electronics Technician’s Mate 1c USNR V-6. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Lee was very proud of his military service, appreciated the sacrifices and contributions of other service members and never failed to thank any service man or woman he met over his lifetime.
In 1946, after the war, Lee married his sweetheart Elsie and together they raised two daughters. He worked for Northwest Natural Gas Company throughout his career. He was a lifetime member of the Portland Royal Rosarians and enjoyed the opportunity to serve and promote his city to visitors. He also served many years on the Royal Rosarian Princess Selection Committee. Lee also volunteered for the Navy League and the Red Cross. Following the death of his beloved Elsie, Lee volunteered for the Portland Alzheimer’s Association.
Lee is remembered by all who knew him for his friendliness, generosity and eagerness to lend a helping hand whenever needed. To his family he leaves a strong legacy of responsible citizenship, dependability, compassion and unflagging devotion.
Leroy was preceded in death by his wife Elsie, brother Richard, mother Christine and father John. He is survived by two daughters, Linda Magnett and Carol Beeman, seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
