

Lester Raymond Maschke was born in Mahnomen, MN to Frank and Myrtle (Newmann) Maschke on Aug. 10, 1923. He had 4 siblings: Roy, Irene, and Gloria. The family moved, 3 months later, to the Cornelius Pass rural area of Portland, OR. Les attended Falkenburg grade school (later Skyline Grade School), and graduated from Scappoose High School. Les married Bonnie Ketchner in 1942, and in Dec. that year, he enlisted in the U.S.Merchant Marines. He served, during WWII in the Atlantic, Pacific. and Mediterranean-Middle East War Zones. In 1945 he was transferred to Alameda, CA for Officer Training and graduated. Les and Bonnie had 3 daughters: Leslie (deceased), Lynne, and Terry. They enjoyed traveling. Bonnie passed away in 1987. Les married Elizabeth (Betty) Louise Summers on Dec. 06, 1992 at St. John Lutheran Church in Portland. They moved to Aurora in 1993. They traveled extensively throughout their marriage. Betty has 4 children by a previous marriage: Kym, Michael, David, and Trevor. Les loved and enjoyed all 25 of the Grand and Gt-Grandchildren. Les worked as a foreman in construction and owned his own family business as a Concessionaire for special events. He was special to all who knew him, and much loved. A funeral service will be held in Skyline Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home Chapel, 4010 NW Skyline Blvd., Portland, OR. on Tuesday, August 20th, 2013, at 2pm.
In Lieu of flowers, remembrances in Les' honor may be made to Oregon Humane Society.
