Marie was born to Claudis and Tinnie Warren, of Linden, TX and was the oldest of 4 children. Most people knew her by “Sis.” She attended Carterville Elementary and Fairview High School.
Marie and her family were members of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She and her sisters formed a gospel singing trio and sang at various churches all over Cass County. In 1955, she moved to Portland, OR and became a member of Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church.
She was the loving mother of six and a phenomenal creative seamstress that made you look fabulous. If you came over on a Saturday morning, there were fluffy homemade mouthwatering biscuits with freshly churned butter sided with the best tasting homemade peach preserves and her special blended spicy sausage. Marie was a talented skillful beautician and also worked in retail.
Family was Marie’s heart and soul. She made sure her children experienced family gatherings which entailed games, music, dancing, and lots of delicious southern food. You could smell the cakes, pies, cobblers, fried chicken, and cornbread dressing from the street. They went on picnics and traveled to various places. She gave unconditional love to her children and grandchildren. She always did whatever she could for her family.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Claudis and Tinnie Warren, children, Albert Horsley Sr. and Sandrea Horsley, grandson, Daniel Bea, and siblings, Johnnie Warren and Ruth Dawson.
Marie leaves to cherish her memories: children, Mary Bea, Wildur Horsley, Cyntrina Horsley-Brown, and Revena Raiford; Sister, Alfreedia Brown; sister-in-law, Ella Warren; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
