The light that illuminated our family has been extinguished. Lillian Orkisz died unexpectedly at age 87 on Sunday, September 13. Edward, her husband of 68 years, preceded her in death just eight weeks ago. Lillian was named Leokadia at birth in Detroit, Michigan. Her parents, Kunegunda and Stanislaw, instilled in her the values of hard work and determination. Lillian was her legal name, but she was most often called Lil or Bonnie. Having more than one name was often a topic of conversation when she was introduced. Lil was beautiful, vibrant and energetic. Her mind sparked with wonder, wit, and creativity. She had a wide circle of influence and made friends easily. She filled many roles: keeper of Polish family traditions, entrepreneur, needlewoman, artist, bridge player, golfer, sewing teacher and proud designer of the five different family homes in Michigan, Arizona and Washington. She loved any project and all challenges. Her role in our family encompassed and exceeded the usual definition of a wonderful mother. She was a constant and loving presence in the lives of her five children, twelve grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Even the friends of her children and grandchildren benefitted from her wisdom. Lillian’s children are: Patricia Krick (George), Jo Ann Foor, Paul Orkisz, Christine Lang (Michael) and Lisa Scardina (Steven). Her grandchildren are: Jessa Krick (Bradley Thurber), Stefan Krick (Julie), Zachary Krick, Briana Solarte (Kurt), Katherine Foor, Edward Christopher Dobek-Orkisz, Caroline Lang, Sophie Lang, Natalie Lang, Andrew Scardina, Nicholas Scardina, and Joseph Scardina. Her great-grandchildren are: Isabella Solarte, Hayden Solarte, and Penelope Krick. All who knew her will forever hold special memories of her light and life. Mom, Grandma (Babcia), GG – you will never leave our hearts. We will continue your legacy of love.
