

Lillie was born at home in The Dalles, Oregon on December 12, 1913 to John and Albine Charles. After graduating from high school Lillie attended University of California, Berkeley and earned a degree in bookkeeping.
She met Kenneth Bennett and moved out to Portland in 1941. The couple married on January 5, 1943. Lillie worked the late shift at Libby Cannery and then Meier & Frank for a time before beginning her career with Portland General Electric where she worked as a Customer Service Representative in the Complaints Department. In addition to her paying jobs, Lillie was a mother to three children as well.
Lillie was an opinionated yet easy going person.While working at PGE Lillie was a member of the company bowling team. The family enjoyed fishing and camping together, their annual trips to Rockaway Beach for a week and another week travelling to various destinations every summer break. After her retirement Lillie was fortunate enough to travel to France with her sisters to spend time with the French side of the family. The family also attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. John Fisher.
She will be missed by her children, Carol Murray, Steven (Jeane) Bennett, aned Robert Bennett; step-daughter, Charlotte Nyberg; daughter-in-law, Mona Bennett; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; her nieces; and cousins living in France. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; step-son, Kenneth; sisters, Juliet Kane, Bertha Mattoon, and Mary Ré; and brothers, Joseph, Neil, and Raymond Charles.
A funeral service will be held at 12pm on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Portland, Oregon.
