Lorraine T. Snodgrass, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, age 90, passed away peacefully in Portland, Oregon on Friday, March 16, 2018. Lory was born in Franklin, New Hampshire and lived most of her early life in Massachusetts. She attended Clark University, being the first person in her family to attend college and graduated in 1949 with a BA in Biology. While attending Clark, she competed in a number of varsity sports, including the Woman’s Crew. After attending Clark, she was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army and was one of the early participants in the Army’s Physical Therapy training program. Lory attained the rank of Captain and remained with the Army until she married John T. Snodgrass, Jr., also an Army officer, in 1954 at Ft. Meade, Maryland. Being part of a military family has its challenges; however, despite being encouraged to resign her commission in order to follow her husband’s career, Lory persevered, and thrived, raising three children while traveling to curious and exotic places as part of a military family. Lory and John retired in the Monterey / Salinas area of California and lived there for more than thirty years before eventually moving to Portland, Oregon. Lory was a fabulous bridge player. She continued to play, and win, up until the last few years of her life. Lory was predeceased by her husband Lt. Col. John T. Snodgrass, Jr., USA, Ret., and her younger brother Ludger T. Leroux. She is survived by her three children Mary (James) Sutter, Pamela (Richard) Aronoff, and John (Joanne) T. Snodgrass III, and many grandchildren. Lory will be buried next to her husband, John, in the Willamette National Cemetery.
