

Lucy Anna Hemmer passed away in keeping how she lived her life quietly and simply. She was born to Anna Witzke Peter and Wolfgang Peter in Bluffton, Minnesota on April 15th, 1917. Her parents and 9 brothers and sisters moved to Shaw, Oregon to raise their family on a farm. She met and married the love of her life, Stanley Frank Hemmer, on July 8th, 1944. Stan and Lucy decided to move to the big metropolis of Salem, OR to have a bigger house (with 4 children) and to be closer to “Stan’s Watch Shop.” Lucy supplemented the families income by working at Bagley’s Azalea Nursery and then as a seamstress at Window Ways Drapery Shop. Lucy was a shy soul who was afraid of elevators, escalators, driving, new people, crowds and flying. Even though social gatherings were hard for her, she never missed a shower, wedding funeral or family gathering. She loved gardening and many of her family members were the recipients of fresh and organically grown vegetables, fruits and nuts. She spent her later years her son and daughter –in-law’s home in Happy Valley, Oregon. When she could no longer safely navigate the stairs to her bedroom she agreed that living at the Town Center would be the best thing for her. She lived there for eight more years being lovingly cared for by all the staff. She lived there for eight more years being lovingly cared for by all the staff. She was predeceased by her husband and 3 brothers and 5 sisters. She is survived by her sister, Gertrude Brandener of Keizer, OR, four children and their spouses – Rosalyn (Don) Upson of Eugene, OR, Dennis (Caroyln) Hemmer of Happy Valley, Gilbert(Kim) Hemmer of Auburn, CA, Joyce little (Steve S.) of Milwaukie, OR, 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren, and 2 step great-great grandchildren.
