Margaret Jane Bohnstedt passed away on April 29, 2025 at The Springs assisted living facility in Wilsonville, Oregon, surrounded by her family.
Born on September 30, 1932 in Mandan, North Dakota, Jane was the daughter of Dr. Stanley Earl Patterson and Tessie Mary Patterson. After her father’s death, her mother moved with Jane and her sister, Diane, to Springfield, Oregon in 1948 to be near her close friends, Katherine and Lyle Swetland.
In 1950, she graduated from Springfield High School and, in 1954, graduated from the University of Oregon with a teaching degree in Elementary Education.
In 1955, Jane married her high school sweetheart, Walter Bohnstedt. Together they raised four children; Stanley, Marilynn, Nancy and Mark. Jane and Walt were married nearly 70 years, and in those years, 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren were added to the family.
Jane enjoyed teaching 1st grade students for 37 years. She taught in Springfield, Oregon and in the Reynolds School District at Wilkes and Glenfair schools.
Jane was known for her laughter and smile, her kindness, humor and dedication to her family and church. She loved hosting family gatherings and PEO (Philanthropic Education Organization) guests, participating in Monday Musical and going on outings with their motorhome group.
She is survived by all of her children and her husband, Walt. She was preceded in death by her sister, Diane Goheen.
A Memorial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 9th at Skyline Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, located at 4101 NW Skyline Blvd, Portland, Oregon 97229.
Jane will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew her.
