Margaret was born in 1928 in Portland to Thomas and Margaret Duggan and was the eldest of two girls. She attended St. Pat’s grade school and graduated from Immaculata Academy in 1949. Upon graduation Margaret began her working career in the insurance business. Eventually she moved into banking and finished her career as an executive assistant at Pacific Power and Light. Retirement was a new beginning for Margaret as she embarked upon her new calling of Volunteer work. She was never absent as a teachers helper at the Madeleine Grade school kindergarten class where she volunteered for over 15 years. She also generously gave her time to the Blanchet House of Hospitality for over 15 years and was recently awarded the “Al Riley Award”. This award is reserved as one of the highest awards for a person with unwavering dedication to the men at the Blanchet House. Margaret possessed a strong will and an uncanny spirit that she displayed right up until her body just could no longer keep up with her.
Margaret is survived by her sister Julia Melcher, nephew Gregory Melcher ( Kathy) , niece Kimberly Mallory ( Mark), great niece Leslie and great nephews Alexander and Mark.
A memorial mass in celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, March 6th 2015, at the Madeleine Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that remembrances be made in Margaret Duggan’s name to the Blanchet House of Hospitality at 310 NW Glisan St., Portland, OR 97209.
