Family and friends were Marian's love and joy. She grew up in Minneapolis with her brother, Lynn, and her two sisters, Grace and Harriet. She met the love of her life, James, in their hometown and they were married before he was drafted and served overseas. Marian later moved to Portland to be closer to family where she worked for Iron Fireman, manufacturer of ship and plane components during WWII. After the War she worked in a beauty salon.
Marian was an artist at heart. She loved oil painting, tole painting, pen and ink drawing, and enjoyed playing the piano. Among her talents, she enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. Marian loved spending the afternoon shopping with her husband James, walking Clackamas Mall. One of her greatest joys was teaching and playing various board and card games with her grandchildren, occasionally letting them win.
Marian is survived by her three children, Gary Hermanson and his wife Elaine, Linda Thom and her husband John, and David Hermanson and his wife Joanne; grandchildren Timothy Hermanson, Peter Emery, Annelise Thom, Kirsten Thom, Hannah Thom, Rachel Hermanson, Elisabath Guffey, Sarah Hermanson, and Sean Hermanson; great-children Amaya Cime, Evan Hermanson and Perrin Guffey.
Marian is preceded in death by her husband, James Hermanson; parents, Clarence Rhodes and Ella Rhodes; as well as her siblings Lynn Rhodes, Grace Zoff, and Harriet Jorgensen.
A private service will be held for Marian with interment at Willamette National Cemetery.
