Marion Lyle Bixel, Jr was born April 11, 1932 in Park Place (now Oregon City), Oregon to Marion Lyle Bixel, Sr and Henrietta Lillian Holshu Bixel. He attended Walla Walla University and Portland State University. In 1960, Marion joined Star Machinery as a sales engineer, selling machine tools and industrial machinery. In 1968, he became president of Allied Northwest Machine Tool Corporation. Over the years Marion lent his expertise to a few other machine tool firms; one in particular was called Pofco, which manufactured stamped and formed metal parts for huge companies like Hewlett-Packard, Tektronix, and Freightliner. After Marion advised these companies, their sales departments more than doubled.
He had a genuine enthusiasm for people, and his activities all involved being with those he cared about:
Sailing, skiing, camping, pizza parties, and church activities. Marion was a member of Kiwanis and Junior Chamber of Commerce. Some of his achievements include helping to start the Happy Valley Fire Department (after his parent’s house burned down), serving as chairman of the North Clackamas School District No. 12 General Advisory Committee, as chairman of school and church boards, and owner of his own Machine Tool Sales Co. He also served honorably in the United States Army.
He will be missed by his wife Ruthanne Bixel of Clackamas;
children Diane Pestes of Boring and Mark Bixel of Damascus;
brothers Noel Bixel of Turlock, California, Doug Bixel of Bellingham, Washington,
Roger Bixel of Boring, and Dan Bixel of Happy Valley;
sisters Nadine Constable of Battle Ground, Washington and Linda Wren of Sutherlin, Oregon;
and by grandson Brayden Bixel.
