She was the 1st of their 3 children. The family moved from Colorado to Oregon in 1945.
In 1957, Ann graduated from Portland, Oregon's Franklin High School. After graduation, Ann worked in Portland at the Federal Reserve Bank.
Music was always a joy & comfort to Ann; when most young people were buying cars, Ann purchased an organ. She enjoyed sharing her talent with family & friends and always had a piano &/or organ in her homes.
In her younger years, Ann enjoyed traveling. While single she was able to visit her paternal uncles in Montana and Texas while they were preaching the Gospel of Jesus. She had many friends and enjoyed being with people all her life.
Ann started serving God at age 14 and chose to live her life honoring Jesus' teachings in faithfulness and humility. In 1965 at a church convention, she met Jim Welsh and their courtship developed long-distance while he served in California with the U.S. Navy. They were married in July of 1968 in her parent's Milwaukie, OR home. Daughter Malinda Kay came along in May of 1970 and son Gary LaVern joined the family in June of 1973.
After marrying, Ann committed herself to being a mother and homemaker. A specialty of hers in the kitchen was baking and she would almost always have a dessert or cookies around, ready at a moment's notice to share with others. She was a very patient person when it came to baking and her pies and cookies always looked great! Each Christmas Jim loved to bake sugar cookies and that was the only time she avoided the kitchen and the mess.
Jim and Ann settled down in Milwaukie close to her parents from 1969 – 1992. Malinda has many fond memories of spending time with her grandparents throughout her growing-up years, often after school & on weekends. Special mother-daughter memories include summer shopping excursions when Ann and Malinda would ride the city bus downtown for a full day. New school clothes & going out to eat was a fondly anticipated yearly occasion for both of them. She loved to shop and after Clackamas Town Center was built nearby, Ann and Malinda spent many Saturdays shopping there.
Jim and Ann both enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Friday nights were often spent going to dinner and then playing games till late with their good friends Roy and May. In later years, Tuesday nights regularly found Jim and Ann playing games of Dominos with their good friends Milo and Lois.
In 1992, Jim’s employer transferred them to Ogden, Utah. A couple years later moved to Omaha, Nebraska Jim's home state. In the late 1990's they returned to Milwaukie, Oregon. No matter where they lived, Jim and Ann had a homelife that welcomed others to share their warm hospitality. Ann thoroughly enjoyed privileges of hosting their Ministers for weeks at a time in Utah and having young folks over for get togethers in the basement of the Omaha house.
Son Gary was able to make the moves with his parents & seemed to enjoy time spent with new friends in each area. A high priority of Jim and Ann's was to care for Gary in their own homes. This goal was lovingly met through to 2011 when Gary moved to an adult care home until his passing in 2016.
Daughter Malinda and her family (Ann's son-in-law Karl, granddaughter Rosanna, & grandson Grant) made their home in Clackamas. It has been a blessing to be nearby Jim and Ann in their later years. Some of Malinda's travel memories with her parents include visiting relatives in Nebraska and Colorado, both as child & during her married life. Passing on the enjoyment of hospitably entertaining others is a caring attribute that Ann has shared with Malinda. Another special attribute Malinda recalls was Ann's gift of being able to recall special dates, events, & spiritual messages she'd heard years prior.
Approximately 10 years ago, Ann was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and gradually also experienced its associated dementia. In 2018, after Jim passed away, Ann moved to Love & Care Foster Home in Clackamas. The family is extremely thankful for the excellent care she received throughout her time there.
Ann is proceeded in death by her husband Jim, son Gary, her parents, 2 brother-in-laws, 2 sister- in-laws, and 1 nephew. Ann is survived by her brother Daryl (Carolyn) of Kingman, Arizona, sister Jean Schrock (Glenn, deceased) of Vancouver, Washington, sister-in-law Roberta Siders of Nebraska, her daughter Malinda (Karl) of Oregon City, Oregon, granddaughter Rosanna Mersereau (Jonathan) of Lima, Ohio, and grandson Grant Cole (Brittany) of Milwaukie, Oregon. Also 6 nephews and 6 nieces, as well as 10 great-nephews, 10 great-nieces, and many loving friends.
