Martha was born and raised in the Woodlawn neighborhood. She purchased a home two houses up from where she was born and raised and lived in the same house her whole life where she raised her family.
Martha married John Burnett on November 3rd, 1956. They raised two children one son, one daughter and one granddaughter. Martha enjoyed the company of her five grandchildren and three Great-grandchildren.
Martha had many hobbies which included leather work (making wallets and purses), working in the garden, cooking, looking thru cookbooks and recipes, taking day trips to the Oregon Coast, visiting flower gardens and fields, watching hummingbirds, spending time with family and friends, and spending time with her little dogs who she dearly loved.
Martha also enjoyed volunteer work. She was a member of the Woodlawn PTA and served as President and she participated in the past PTA President group get-togethers. For several years she was a volunteer and coordinator for the Portland Police Bureau working with the Block Home program. She also served various positions on the Woodlawn Neighborhood Association and served as President. She worked the voting polls before they became mail in elections and Martha also served as the financial secretary for the Woodlawn United Methodist Church for several years.
Martha was also a member of the Woodlawn Odd Fellows #171 and Rose City Rebecca's #170.
Through all of her volunteer work Martha also received several awards and recognitions some of them include the Oregon Congress of Parents and Teachers, Community Service award, Portland Police Bureau Crime Prevention award, Crime Prevention Association of Oregon Certificate of Appreciation, CPAO Block Home award, Volunteers of America award, and the Mayor's Spirit of Portland award to name a few.
Martha always thought of others at church and at her lodge and made sure if someone had a birthday or was sick she would get a card sent to them and would even make phone calls to let people know someone was thinking of them and to remind them of upcoming meetings and get togethers.
Martha departed this life on February 16th, 2018. She leaves behind to cherish her memory son and daughter-in-law Robert and Rebecca Dewey -Portland OR, daughter and son-in-law LaVelle and Thomas Stumpf -Netarts, OR, granddaughter's Teresa Leeper (who she raised)- Portland OR, Tammie Painter and husband David Anderson -Milwaukie OR, Martha Zeck -Vancouver WA, Becky Dewey- Portland OR, grandson Robert and wife Cindy Dewey- Troutdale, OR, great-grandchildren Tyler Zeck -Vancouver WA, Samantha Dewey and Johnathan Dewey- Estacada OR.
