Beloved wife and mother, Martha Carolyn Baker Hill died on June 16th, 2026, at 88yrs old in Forest Grove, Oregon. She was born Oct 18, 1937, in Baltimore, Maryland to William Addison Baker Jr., and Mary John Kronmiller.
Martha attended Kincaid School in Houston, Texas and Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She met her husband John Mayes Hill Jr. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Houston, Texas. They were later married in the LDS temple at Manti, Utah. John taught at BYU, Provo for many years and they retired to the Oregon Coast.
She is survived by her husband, John Mayes Hill, Jr, daughters and sons: Heather Lynn Nadauld, David Andrew Hill, Melissa Lee Modjeski, John Mayes Hill III, Cara Anne Hill and Mark Baylies Hill, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son and daughter Joel Sanerivi Hill and Nanise Marie Hill Bean.
As mother of eight and any other that needed a home, Martha was kept busy with running a small family farm, several out of the home jobs, charity work and volunteering in her Church.
Many will remember her insatiable curiosity, good humor, and willingness to do the impossible. Notably, her sense of humor continued to the day of her death. She was an avid reader, horticulturalist, landscaper and loved nature.
A family memorial will be held at a later date for immediate family only.
