Martha Ullman West was born June 18th 1938 into an artist family. She grew up in New York City surrounded by intellectuals and artists in Greenwich Village. She worked as a copywriter after graduating from Barnard College in 1960. After marrying Frank West in 1963 the couple moved to Portland Oregon. Martha remained in Portland the rest of her life until dying peacefully on July 5th 2026.
Martha was a writer, dance critic, and dance historian. A world traveler, loving mother and aunt, devoted grandmother, friend and chosen family to many. She will be missed.
