Mary Jane Burns

Mary Jane Burns (née Mackay) passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026 , in Salem, Oregon. Born on October 7, 1931, in St. Louis, Missouri, Mary Jane grew up in Holland, Michigan, before embarking on a life filled with love, laughter, and service.

Mary Jane met her future husband, Robert Burns, in a chance encounter during a road trip to the ocean. He was the other guy in the car, when she returned home that evening, she told her mother she met the man she was going to marry. They married in the Panama Canal Zone. Known affectionately as Momma Burns, she was cherished for her contagious laugh and generous spirit. Always putting others first, Mary Jane's home and heart were always open, earning her a beloved place in many lives.

Professionally, Mary Jane was a dedicated computer technician in the medical industry. She played a pivotal role in transitioning her office into the digital age, a testament to her hard work and commitment to innovation.

Mary Jane was an active member of the Escondido Seventh Day Adventist Church, where her faith was an integral part of her life. She served as Head Elder and Deacon, and she played an important role with the youth in her Escondido Community, as a chaperone for all of the youth. She often expressed that God's grace was sufficient for her, a belief she held close to her heart.

Her creative spirit shone through her hobbies, which included card making (mailed out hundreds of cards to all of those that she had met through her life), baking, and crafting blankets for new mothers in her community. Her handmade cards, sent to friends and acquaintances, were tokens of her thoughtful nature.

Mary Jane is survived by her loving children, Robbin, Kevin, and Cindy, along with her cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and son-in-law and daughter’s-in-law, all of whom brought great joy to her life.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Escondido Seventh Day Adventist Church, honoring Mary Jane's commitment to her faith and community. Her legacy of love, service, and faith will continue to inspire those who knew her.
