Mary Belle (Jackson) Demuth passed away Friday, May 7, 2021. She was born April 13, 1940 to Louis and Alma (Scears) Jackson in Missoula, Montana, the 8th of 9 children. The family soon moved to Vancouver, Washington. At the age of 5, Mary and her siblings went to live on the Cathlamet, Washington farm of Jack and Violet Heldt where she stayed until graduating from Naselle High School in 1958. After graduation, Mary moved to Portland, Oregon where she worked with her sister Shirley at Northwest Laundry. While riding the bus to work each day, Mary would stand behind the driver and visit with him. They began to date and, on August 24, 1975, Mary and Bill Demuth were married. The couple raised their son, Derek, in their North Portland home where Mary enjoyed working in her garden and visiting with her good friend Netra. She also enjoyed drawing and painting portraits and landscapes, painting ceramics and building things, including a 4’ x 4’ black fighter jet plane that hung in the corner of her computer room. Sadly, Bill passed away in 1998. Mary loved being Grandmama to her 6 grandchildren, teaching them to cook and playing whatever game, either real or make-believe, that they wanted to play. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Louis and Gene and her husband. She will be missed by her son Derek, siblings Bob, Betty, Bessie, Shirley, Patricia and Roger, grandchildren Billy, Kaitlyn, Michelle, Dustin, Fayth and J.J., great-grandchildren Kyler, Jackson, Bennett and Jackson and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary will be remembered for her great laugh, love of QVC and HSN, her uniform of black spandex shorts and loose fitting white t-shirts, her love of anything red and her sassy attitude. She was everyone’s solid rock and her compassionate, nurturing, selfless attitude will long be remembered.
