

Born in 1928, Mary was born and raised in Homs, Syria. She got married in Damascus, Syria to Abdul Karim Hakkoum, whom she loved dearly, and started her family at a young age. She enjoyed being a mother. She raised her children to be good-hearted, helpful, faithful, honest, hard working and to love and help one another and be there for each other and their family in times of need. She was gentle, generous, loving and helpful to everyone around her. She was infamous for welcoming people into her home and making them feel loved, welcomed, and a part of the family.
Mary was an active member of the Syriac Orthodox Church, where she attended the Holy Mass every Sunday. She never missed one. She dedicated her life to her family and God. She also had other interests that included sewing and baking, as well as traveling. She has visited many countries that varied from Greece, Egypt, and Canada before residing in Portland, Oregon.
She is survived by her children Ibtisam, Matar, Samir, Samira and Mouna Hakkoum. Her grandchildren, Miriam Alhayek, Rana Faris, Akram and Catia Hakkoum. Great grandchildren Matthew Alhayek, Lilian Faris. Three brothers, Ibrahim, Ilyan, and Jamil Trad in the United States and her four sisters Naema, Naela, Antoinette and Nizha Trad that reside in Australia and Syria. Also by her sons-in-law, Marcel and Waleed Rahal, and her daughters-in-law, Hayat Hakkoum and Klodi Touma.
