Mary Ellen Rodgers

Mary Ellen was raised on the family farm the daughter of Charles E. and Mabel Roberts Grieve. She attended the small grade school donated by her grandfather that was on the corner of the property. She graduated from Twin Falls High School and went on to graduate from College of Idaho with a teaching degree in music and English. Mary Ellen taught music and English at Midvale High School in Midvale Idaho for two years where she met the love of her life Galen F. Rodgers. They were married June 11, 1942 and were married 61 years.

Mary Ellen started piano lessons at 5 years old. She used her musical talent for the enjoyment of herself and others her entire life as a piano teacher for many young people and adults, church organist and choir director for both youth and adult choirs. She was still playing piano daily until just before her passing.

Mary Ellen is survived by her children Gayle (Rodgers) Burke and Gary C. Rodgers; grandchildren Gregory W Burke, Jeffery G. Burke, Crystal Rodgers, April (Rodgers) Fitzpatrick, and Danielle (Rodgers) Purdy; great-grandchildren Taylor Mae Burke, Grayson Burke, Tristan Jeppeson, Bella Jeppeson, Keira Fitzpatrick and Gavin Fitzpatrick.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Cherry Park Presbyterian Church, 348 Cherry Park Rd, Troutdale, OR 97060. Memorial donations can be made to Cherry Park Presbyterian Church.
