I think about you randomly and either smile or get sad. I have two sons now, Canyon is 4 and Cavern (Cave) is 2. I earned an associates degree in studio art and one in art history. I'm working on a bachelor's degree now. I own a home. I wish you could see the dramatic differences in my life. I've worked really hard to get here, and I'll continue to do that until I've created the life I want for my children. 
 I keep a treasure chest that I fill with precious metals, rare comics and coins, and other valuable items that I will leave for them when I die. I put the little Buddha statue and a small SOG pocket knife you gave me one year for my birthday in there, and I'll make sure they know who those items come from.
I never had another friend like you after we lost touch. I don't think I ever will.

So wonderful to read the latest memory from Matt’s friend.  This is the time of year I miss Matt the most.  His soups kept my family warm when the weather started to turn.  Miss you, Matt!

Matt and I were friends, colleagues and roommates on more than one occasion. As is often the case, life happens and we lost contact a while back. I decided to look him up today to see if I could find a way to reconnect with him. I was and am so saddened to learn that I will never again see you my sweet friend. You were one of the best people I ever knew and a true friend through and through. I have nothing but fond memories of you and like many others, will always remember your beaming smile and the genuine kindness. I always hoped I'd see you again, that I'd get to introduce you to my wife and son. I will tell him about you though and I'll carry your memory with me until we see each other again. I love you, Matt. Rest easy, my friend.

I grew up with Matt and we were friends from grade school through when we graduated high school.  Since then, we lost contact and I was unable to find him to get back in touch.  I will always remember how gentle and kind he was with everyone.  Also, precocious and funny.   I can still see him with a big smile on his face whenever friends would get together.  My family and I are so sad to learn of his passing. We send our deepest condolences to his family.  

I knew Matt as a coworker at OHSU School of Dentistry. He was always ready to help the students and his kind, gentle demeanor was loved by all. He is sincerely missed and I know, that I speak for all of us, in wishing his family & loved ones sincerest sympathies & heartfelt wishes for peace. 

Matt never failed to put a smile on my face. He was a kind and gentle soul with a big heart. He was a knowledgeable and hard worker and OHSU was truly lucky to have Matt on their team.  He made a positive difference in my day everytime I interacted with him. 
Matt will truly be missed. 

I new Matt for more than 10 years but like many I did not know him well. What I did know was all good except for the suffering he and his family had to endure with his illness. I benefited from his help several times and experienced his cooking and company at many holidays. He helped our last Thanksgiving celebration by finding the way to get to the best table at Jake's. I will miss him.

I always thought of Matt as such a kind and gentle soul. I enjoyed him as a neighbor when he lived two doors down, and appreciated conversations with him that were filled with kindness.  It was a great listener and had such a sweet demeanor. He also was incredibly loved
by his family. The world is not the same without him here   Melissa

Matt was the best chef ever!!  My kids loved his enchiladas!!  I loved his pumpkin soup.  He made the most amazing fish stew.  He made crepes for a family gathering that were simply the most delicious crepes ever!!  But, it wasn't just his cooking, it was the love he showed us by his cooking.  When Habti was little, he set him up on the counter and he cooked with him.   We will always celebrate you, Matt!  tears and hugs forever!   Kirsten, Habti, and Zewdi
