Mattie Ruth Mullen
8/3/1926 – 6/24/2013
Mattie Ruth was born in Forrest, Mississippi to the parents of Edmond and Mattie Harvey. The next chapter in her life took her to Portland, Oregon where she lived with her sister, Mae Katherine Simms. Mae Katherine was very stern and protective of her little sister, so she became more of a mother figure. She admired Thomas David (TD) Mullen and introduced him to the love of his life Mattie Ruth.
Her family and grandchildren were always close to her heart. Her siblings now all deceased Edmond, Dora, Charlie, Bill, Mooky, Mae Katherine, Minnie, James and adopted brother Hughie provide much fun and tons of memories. God provided a loving family, the Lockes, of Washington as an extended family that were always close to them and their children almost matched in age and number! They will forever be connected. Mattie was a mother to children wherever she went. She was known for taking children on vacations with the family. Ronnie Hartley went to California with the family in 1961 and will never forget the talk Mattie gave to him on etiquette when he ate 6 ears of corn as a guest at the home of some of their friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmond and Mattie Harvey, her husband Thomas David Mullen Sr., her son Toby Lindsey Mullen, and her siblings Edmond, Dora, Charlie, Bill, Mooky, Mae Katherine, Minnie, James and adopted brother Hughie. She leaves to cherish her memories; her son Thomas David Mullen of Portland, daughters Princella Smith (Christopher) of Portland, Kathryn Rena Mullen-Hepburn (Donald) of Kenmore, WA, Debra Delores Mullen of Las Vegas, NV, and Ronnie Lewis Hartley (Kristine) of Portland, her daughter in-law Marilyn Lockhart, and seven grandchildren: Christopher Smith Jr, Sharetta Yates (Aniel), Thomas James Mullen (Donna), Douglas Smith, Micheal Price, Teressa Hartley, and Mary Hartley. She also leaves to cherish her memory seven great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
When it’s all said she simply LOVED people. Mattie was most loved by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, church family and friends. She leaves them to rejoice in all the love she shared in her time with them. Although she is traveling another road, she will remain in their hearts and memories. God’s love for her was much greater.
