Mavis Marcella (Weber) Talaska, age 92, was called home to heaven on January 18, 2019 from her home she shared with son and daughter-in-law Dave and Debbie Tragethon in Happy Valley, Oregon, where she resided the past 11 years.
She was born September 19, 1926 in Upsala, MN, the oldest of three children to parents Irene and Amos Weber. She attended schools in Upsala. She loved to fish and hunt with her dad and brothers. She moved to Minneapolis, married Norman Tragethon and raised his two kids, Norma and Grant; and gave birth to two more Don and Dave. Following a divorce, Mavis raised her young family as a single Mom, working as a waitress and manager at Mac’s Tap in Mpls, Sandy’s Tavern and the American Legion in Richfield. She found her true love Warren Talaska, sitting on a telephone pole. They were married on June 19, 1965. They spent weekends at the Lakeview Inn on Dam Lake near Aitkin, helping to run the business owned by her brother Don and Norma. Mavis served as a conservator and care provider for family and friends over the years. Her compassionate spirit and genuine heart led her to those in need of friendship, support or just someone to talk to. Her wisdom, wit and common sense inspired all those who knew her.
She helped raise her grandchildren, great-grand-children, and was always there to assist anyone who needed help. She inspired all those around her with her “kick ass” attitude, she loved to dance, especially the polka. Mavis loved ice skating, ice-fishing, crafts, traveling and the ocean. Most importantly she loved her husband Warren dearly, and family meant everything to her.
She is survived by her brother Russell “Bud” (Janice) Weber, sons Don (Jan) Tragethon, Dave (Debbie) Tragethon, step-children Norma Lehmann and Grant (Cheryl) Tragethon; grandchildren: Amy (Mark) Riggs, Shane, Megan and Dustin Tragethon, Patty (Jeff) Swedberg, Roger (Jolynn) Weber, Barb (Gary) Tverberg, Tony (Jenny) Klee, Ben (Kristi) Tragethon, Jenni (Alan) Thyng; great-grandchildren: Paige (Zach) Denny, Jenna (Ben) Little, Alyssa and Hailey Swedberg, Erika Tverberg; three great-great-grand children; and nieces, nephews, cousins and many awesome friends.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents Amos and Irene, her brother Don, and her husband Warren.
A celebration of her life is planned on May 18th at the LakeView Inn at Dam Lake near Aitkin. Internment will be at Saron Cemetery near Dam Lake.
