Surrounded by family, Maxine Florenz McMonies was reunited with her Heavenly Father on October 3, 2019. Maxine was born May 3, 1926 in Portland, Oregon to Allen Matador Campbell and Florenz Katherine Campbell. She was a light to all who had the privilege to associate with her.
She attended Beaumont Grade School, U. S. Grant High School, and Oregon State University (Alpha Gamma Delta). During high school, college, and throughout her life she played the piano, organ, and accordion for choral groups, weddings, social gatherings, and business events. She had a special ability to add class and beauty to any piece of music that she performed.
Maxine married Warren A. McMonies in 1946 after a long courtship through her high school and college years. They enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage.
Maxine often modeled for local agencies, bringing her feminine grace to fashion, runway and charity events. She worked at Meier & Frank in the accounting department, was Vice President of Metzger Parker Co. Realtors for four years and President for twenty-three years.
She was a member of The Portland Women’s Forum and other service organizations and supported many charities with the Oregon Food Bank being one of her favorites.
She was preceded in death by her parents Allen and Florenz Campbell and husband Warren A. McMonies. Maxine is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Suzanne Bybee (Louis); Grandchildren, Tracy A. Davis (Perry); Bryan A. Bybee; Tuvara L. Bybee; Great Grandchildren, Hunter A. Lindsey; Serena B. Lindsey; Samantha V. Lindsey; Bryan A. Bybee Jr.; and Likeia K. Bybee.
Maxine adored her extended family and found great pride in their accomplishments. She loved spending time with them as often as she could. She had a soft spot for animals, and owned many poodles over the years. She enjoyed the antics of her double yellow-headed amazon parrot that kept her company for over 50 years. She could name most of the varieties of birds in her yard and enjoyed listening to their songs. She also liked watching the squirrels run on the utility wires, but was less than amused when they chewed through the phone lines and other parts of her home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oregon Food Bank or other charitable organizations of your choice.
