Pete was born on a farm in Gennessee Township, Minnesota. Pete worked for at the Portland, OR Nabisco plant for 36 years from 1947 to 1985 with a break from 1950 to 1952 to serve in the Army during the Korean conflict. Pete was also President of the Baker’s union for 20 years. Pete left Nabisco in 1985 and worked for the Union retiring in 1989. Pete married Gladys Madeline Babcock “the love of his life” in 1972 and was married for 30 years until Gladys passed away May 2, 2002. Pete said that “these were, by far, the best years of his life”. Pete and Gladys traveled the world with their favorite country being China. Pete and Gladys never had any children but they have left a sizable donation for the children at Doernbecher Children’s hospital, The Providence Child Center, and The Ronald McDonald House. A large donation was also left to Guide Dogs for the Blind, Inc. A funeral service for Melvin “Pete” Peterson will be held at Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes on 12/13/11 at 11:00am with a reception to follow.
