Leolah Funk Mack was born March 18, 1916 in Enterprise Oregon to James and Mertie Funk. She died in Portland after complications from a fall.
Leolah lived in Enterprise until she was in sixth grade at which time she moved to Pendleton. When she was in the 8th grade she moved to Parkdale where she completed high school. Leolah attended business school in Portland. She met her beloved husband Frank while she was working at the Apple Growers Coop in Hood River. They were married on May 17, 1939 at Hood River Congregational Church and celebrated 68 years of marriage prior to Frank’s death in 2007.
Leolah worked as a bookkeeper in health services, education, and private industry until she retired. She and Frank traveled around the United States and to England, Scotland and Finland after Frank’s retirement. Leolah loved gardening and golf. She was an avid reader and knitter and knit many sweaters for her family and socks for Frank.
Leolah is survived by her daughter Patty and son-in-law Jim Baird of Portland; her daughter Marilyn and son-on-law Tim McGuire of Portland; and her daughter Julie Feely of Westlake Village, California. She is also survived by five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Leolah’s life will be held by her family on October 13, 2013.
