

His education started at Bradford Grade School in Hazel. He went on to attend Watertown High School in Watertown, South Dakota until his family moved to Portland, Oregon, where he attended Roosevelt High School and later received his GED.
In September of 1950, Merv went to a dance, where he met his future wife, Viola. The two were married on July 14, 1951. Merv and Viola had a rich and loving marriage that lasted 73 years.
Mervin’s early career took him down several different paths including farming, carpentry, and working in a shipyard. He went on to become an auto mechanic, where he was awarded with the GMC Automotive Award for Excellence. He retired in May of 1987.
Merv belonged to several groups during his lifetime. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, he was part of the Eagles and Elks, and he belonged to a dining out group. Mervin had many hobbies, including woodworking, stained glass, metal work, building cars, and inventing tools. He was good with his hands and liked to dabble in just about anything that allowed him to use those skills.
He will be remembered most for the love and devotion he had for his family. He was their rock. Merv was a teacher who shared his skills and knowledge openly. He was a problem-solver who valued thinking and planning. He enjoyed life and loved to laugh and tease. He was patient, calm, steady, and reliable.
Mervin is survived by his wife, Viola Stormo; daughter, Pamela (George) Brown; granddaughter, Christina Brown; grandson, George (Caitlin) Brown II; great-granddaughter, Ash Trinity Brown, and great-granddaughter, Emilie.
Merv passed away at his home in Portland on August 16, 2024. He will be missed and remembered lovingly by all those he touched.
