Michael Patrick Morrissey, born January 21, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan. Surrounded by family and friends Mike, passed away on August 6, 2026, in Portland, Oregon. He is survived by his sons, Emmet and Brendan Morrissey.
Michael served in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Sergeant and receiving the Purple Heart.
Michael followed current events closely. He cared deeply about humanitarian crises around the world, particularly in Ukraine and Haiti, and supported organizations working to advance justice and improve health.
Michael was also a devoted sports fan. He remained a loyal supporter of the Detroit Tigers and enjoyed gathering with fellow Tigers fans in Portland to watch games. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of Oregon State Baseball, sometimes traveling to Arizona for Spring Training. Michael loved animals and shared his home with many dogs and cats over the years.
A Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on August 19, 2026, at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Brennan Center for Justice, Partners In Health, or the Pixie Project, organizations that reflected Michael's commitment to justice, humanitarian aid, and animal welfare.
