Mike was born December 12, 1962, to Sarah and Lowell Norbom in San Francisco, California. He attended several schools but would earn his diploma from Encinal High School in 1980 in Alameda, California. He would then enlist in the US Army in 1984 until his honorable discharge in 1989. For a portion of this time, he was stationed in Hawaii, where he was the racquetball champion of his base. As a kid, he loved baseball, even going on to win a state championship in High School. Mike was a proud American, a proud Army veteran, and a proud 29-year employee at the United States Postal Service. He loved his work, traveling, spending time with loved ones, and cars. He is survived by his wife, June; his son, Zach; his father, Lowell; his sisters, Susan and Teresa; and other beloved family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
A Memory of Mike
A devoted husband and father, my dad did everything he could to ensure my mom and I had the best. When we moved to Happy Valley, my dad made the commitment to drive me all the way to NE Portland every morning so I could continue the Spanish immersion program at school there. Every morning, we’d go to school together in his blue convertible Audi A4, during which time we’d joke around, have discussions, sing his favorite rock songs, and talk cars. It was during those rides that he sparked my passion for cars; some of my deepest memories and core values come from that time spent together. I adopted his sense of humor, values, and even some mannerisms that will stay with me forever. Those car rides during my formative years were more important and impactful to me than he will ever know. My relationship with my father serves as my main inspiration for wanting a family of my own; I hope to evoke the same feelings in my kids that I have for my dad.
