In Loving Memory of Mildred Ann Castillo
At the remarkable age of 96, our beloved mother Millie passed away peacefully of natural causes. Her spirit never grew old, and her joy for life remained as vibrant as ever.
Born and raised in rural eastern Montana, Mom quickly discovered life on a farm was not for her and she was a city girl at heart. At 18, she first moved to Spokane, Washington and then eventually on to Portland, Oregon, following her older sister to live new experiences. That independent spirit stayed with her throughout her life.
Mom enjoyed a long and successful career as an executive assistant - a role that perfectly matched her organizational talent and natural ability to connect with people. After decades of hard work, she embraced retirement with the same enthusiasm she brought to everything she did.
She believed in staying active and enjoying life. She excelled at ballroom dancing, finding joy in the music, movement, and friendships it brought. She even took up skiing later in life and skied until she was 75.
But what made Mom truly extraordinary was her heart. She was kind, thoughtful, and blessed with a wonderful sense of humor. She had a gift for making people feel comfortable, appreciated, and loved. Her warmth and positive outlook were treasures to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She leaves behind her son, Bruce Castillo (Katie Maksym), and daughter, Lori Brown.
