Mildred Fay (Wright) House passed away on Monday, February 11 at the grand age of 96. The youngest of four siblings, Mildred was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas, where she worked her way through night school at Southern Methodist University to learn teletype, Morse Code and administrative work. Her independent spirit brought her to the Pacific Northwest where she became an airport telegraph operator and worked for the Navy Department at the end of WWII. She met her husband Tony (Charles A. House) in Baker City, Oregon where they opened an optometry clinic. Mildred and Tony raised two beautiful children. They enjoyed their retirement years in California, Arizona, and finally, King City, Oregon. Tony, the love of Mildred’s life, passed away in 2002. They were married for 56 beautiful years.
Mildred was an avid reader (of biographies, in particular), a remarkable dressmaker, and thoughtful writer, keeping a personal journal for the majority of her adult life.
Mildred is survived by her loving family members including her daughter Linda Remsen and son-in-law Dan Remsen; her son Michael House and daughter-in-law Mary Poulsen; and her granddaughter, Kirsten Marie Walsh.
The Remsen and Poulsen-House families would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Holgate Friendship Center and Kaiser Permanente’s Hospice and Continuing Care Program for their support of Mildred and her family for the past 18 months.
