Patricia was born in Portland to Helen and John Stephenson. She attended Grout Elementary School and graduated from Cleveland High School. She attended Portland State University. Later in her 40's she finished her education at Marylhurst University with a Bachelor of Science in Business and Management.
In December 1960 Paricia married Dieter P. Gebhardt. They had one son, Michael. Patricia worked as a dental office manager and later became a travel agent and tour guide. Her passion for travel developed into leading many tours to Europe and organizing many group cruises. One of the highlights was leading a group from her church to Oberammergau Germany, for the Passion Play in 1990. She often spoke of the joy she felt cuddling a koala bear in Australia and watching the penguins come out of the water.
Patricia was a people person and loved entertaining. Whether it was a birthday party or shower, her guests always enjoyed going to their house for a great time and good food.
Patricia was an accomplished vocalist. She sang in many choirs, at school, church and the German Club. She often sang solos and duets at functions, weddings and funerals. Sadly, her vocal cords were damaged during surgery, so was not able to perform anymore.
Unfortunately, later years were plagued by health issues severe enough to require numerous back surgeries and a heart surgery. She said that her faith in God and wonderful family and friends did not allow her to "give up".
Patricia was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, German American Society of Portland, Ladies Relief Society and The Liedertafel Harmonie Choir.
Patricia is survived by her husband of 64 years, Dieter and their son Michael, as well as one grandchild Kalea; Sister-in-law Renate Charbonneau, nieces Stephanie Straight, Debbie Zimmer and their children Jesse, Emily and Natalie; and many cousins and their families.
The family is so grateful to husband Dieter for lovingly caring for Pat the last few years. We also thank the family of Anakalia Adult Care Home for their attentive care of Pat since October.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, February 22nd at Augustana Lutheran Church, 2710 NE 14th Avenue, Portland, OR 97212.
