Until his stroke a few weeks earlier, Paul was able to enjoy a daily walk outside, weather permitting, even into his 90’s. He also enjoyed sailing with Gary, visits with friends, going to Gospel concerts, and most days, he loved a bowl of soup!
Paul and his sister Ruth were born in Milwaukie, WI to Edward Mueller, a salesman, and Lydia Schrapf Mueller. When Paul was 12, his Mom moved with the kids to the Schrapf family farm near Ann Arbor Michigan. He would graduate from Manchester High School and later serve in the Army during World War II. Upon returning home, Paul worked nights in local factories, and days on the farm.
In the 1950’s Paul began to attend local tent revival meeting, and eventually felt called to become a pastor. Soon Paul moved to Portland, OR and took the position of associate pastor of Wings of Healing Temple. It was at Wings of Healing that he met a Bible School Student by the name of Emily Ann Cooke.
Paul and Emily Mueller were married on November 19, 1955. While still at Wings of Healing, Gary was born. Wings of Healings would move to LA, and Paul and Emily moved with them. In 1959, Karen was born, and passed away in a very short time. The couple next lead a congregation in Lemoore Ca., and during this time Jim was born. After Lemoore, the couple would spend a few years near Ogbomosho, Nigeria, then a year in Michigan, finally settling in the house on Canyon Lane in Portland. In 2003, Paul and Emily were so excited to move to their house on Rosa Road in Beaverton.
Paul was a caring and supportive partner of Emily during her years of Cancer. He would go to treatment with her, read to her when she was too sick to watch tv, and cooked many meals. She passed on October 13, 2010 and he missed her very much.
In addition to Gary and Jim, Paul is survived by Jim’s wife, daughter-in-law Barb Portouw and Grandchildren Anne, Mitch and Sarah who fondly called him Grandad. Over the years as Grandad, he attended many Gymnastic meets, Baseball games, and Choir Concerts.
