Pauline Kay Gurrad “Polly” was born on August 30, 1943 in Aberdeen WA, to Anesther and Harold Gurrad. She shared childhood with three older siblings: Chuck, Ann and Phil growing up in a small close-knit community in Grays Harbor, Washington.
She survived polio as a child due to her parent’s commitment to her recovery.
Polly loved playing outdoor games with friends and her summers in the farms in central/eastern Washington. She was a good student; the social aspect of school being her favorite subject. During high school, she worked at St. Joseph Hospital washing dishes and serving meals.
After graduating from Weatherwax High School, she married Henry Charles Micheau “Hank” on March 15, 1963. Polly and Hank had a long and beautiful marriage where they were forever committed to each other and complemented each other.
They raised their two children, Wendy and Dan in the Cedar Hills and Cedar Mill neighborhoods in Portland, Oregon.
Polly became active in every neighborhood she lived in: played in a BUNKO group, volunteered to be the crossing guard at her children’s school, parent chaperone and a perfect room mother, Campfire Girl leader and biggest fan for her children in their sports activities. She made HOME a welcoming place. The family took an annual summer trip to Diamond Lake in Oregon with other families, and holidays were typically spent in Grays Harbor or the Puget Sound area visiting relatives where Polly could visit till dawn.
Polly established a meaningful 19-year career in tax preparation through Greg Young at Young & Co., CPA.
Polly always attracted people to her. She was accepting of others, gregarious and unreserved, optimistic and determined to create a meaningful life despite setbacks. She was devoted to the value of community and connecting her talents with the world around her.
She had a passion for golf, loved sunflowers, playing cards, dominoes and pinochle, her PALM SPRINGS and PARKINSON SISTERS groups, many animals in her lifetime, and mostly creating unforgettable memories with her family and friends.
Polly became a caretaker for her husband in his final years, was the best model to her children with the best advice, passionately adored her grandchildren, and traveled to far off places in her evening years. Her life pattern was to maintain humor and hope in all things and see opportunities for living life to the fullest.
Polly is predeceased by her husband Hank, her parents Harold and Anesther, her sister Ann and brother Phil. She is survived by her daughter Wendy, son Dan, grandchildren: Spencer, Hudson, Grace, Kemper, Ivy, Lila, and Laurel, brother Chuck, closest and longest childhood friend Sharon, many in law’s, aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends too numerous to name.
Polly ‘s spirit was vibrant beyond words. One of her favorite words of advice was: “FIND JOY. DO WHAT MAKES YOUR HEART HAPPY.”
