Penny Locke passed away on June 28, 2024 at the age of 98. She was born on August 6, 1925, in the Boise, Idaho area to her parents, Harry and Lorena Fong, and grew up in NW Portland with her sister Dorothy and brother Jimmy. She attended Couch Elementary School and Lincoln High School. She married Chester Locke in 1944. She worked various jobs at a bank, pharmacy, and several Chinese restaurants, but raising kids and grandkids was her primary career.
Penny was known for her hospitality. Her favorite thing to do was cooking, cooking, and more cooking. She welcomed friends and family into her home, and always had a huge Sunday dinner for her kids and grandkids, and whoever else happened to drop by that day.
Penny is survived by her children: Patty, Roger (Karrie), Marilee, Susan, and Margaret; and her grandchildren: Christopher, Ashley, Lindsey, Tai, Jonathan, Emi and Livia; and her great grandchildren: Liliana, Jacob, Lucas, and Nico as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Chester (2006), and grandsons Eric (2015) and Nicholas (2019).
A private service will be held at a later date. Donations in Penny’s memory may be made to the Portland Chinatown Museum (P.O. Box 2925, Portland Oregon 97208) and Ikoi no Kai (1333 SE 28th Ave, Portland OR 97214).
