Penny Ann Ryan

Born on February 25, 1942 in Portland Oregon, to Al and Frieda Miller, Penny was the oldest of three children and is survived by her siblings, Jim and Arlene.

Growing up in Northeast Portland, Penny rode her bike everywhere, and those adventurous memories stayed with her throughout her life.

Penny shared 62 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Drew. Together they built Dee’s Sanitary Service and a life centered on hard work, love, and family. Drew may have thought he was in charge, but those who knew them best knew Penny was the decision-maker.

She will be remembered for her amazing outlook on life, her crooked smile, her offbeat sense of humor, and her tough, stubborn spirit. She loved deeply, never judged others, and believed you couldn’t understand someone’s journey until you had walked in their shoes.

The love she gave was returned tenfold. When Penny passed, there was not a dry eye among the caregivers – a reflection of the remarkable woman she was.

She leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, laughter, and unconditional love that will live on in all who knew her.

Penny is survived by her brother, Jim Miller; her sister, Arlene Wittkins; her children and their spouses: Scott Ryan and Anne Ryan, Kim Stokes and Mark Stokes; her six grandchildren: Alex Stokes, Valerie Chung, Jake Ryan, Emma Van Drimmelen, and Quinn Ryan; and her four great-grandchildren: Esme Stokes, James Chung, Kinley Van Drimmelen, and Benson Van Drimmelen.
