

PHYLLIS WEST PARKER was born on September 24, 1924, in Ruskin, Nebraska and passed away on April 4, 2016, in Portland, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her brother, Leland West, and her partner, Victor Greb. In 1936, at age 12, her parents auctioned the family farm and left the dust bowl, driving their Model A Ford to Portland where they hoped to find a more promising future. Phyllis graduated from Franklin High School in 1942 and attended one year at St. Olaf College in Minnesota. She returned home and worked several jobs before being hired by Multnomah County in 1956. She retired from the County after 34 years in 1990. Phyllis was reared in the Lutheran faith and attended Central and Bethany Lutheran churches. Her faith was very important to her and she participated in the choir and occasionally played the organ. She could always be counted on to help if needed. Always active, Phyllis played golf and loved to travel. She was very involved in the Navy League and Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition for many years. She was considered a “classy” lady by all who knew her. She is survived by her two sons, Loren Lee (Jacqueline) and Craig Lee (Stacie), 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Services will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church in Portland on Wednesday, April 27 at 11:00 a.m.
