

loving mother of her two children, Leo and Ian Buckwalter, and her two step-children Zan and Jasper
Grace. She was the loving wife of Thomas Grace.
Rachel was born in Syracuse, NY on August 10, 1979. At the age of 4, she and her family moved to
Londonderry, NH where she lived until she graduated from Londonderry High School. After high school
she moved to Mechanicsburg, PA to attend Messiah College. While living in Pennsylvania Rachel met her
former husband, David, and there they raised their two beautiful children, Leo and Ian, and established
many deep and loving friendships.
Rachel relocated to Portland, OR along with her two children in 2017. She remarried Thomas Grace, her
lifelong friend in 2020 and became the loving stepmother to Zan and Jasper Grace. As Rachel created
her new life in Oregon with Thomas, Rachel embraced her love of the water and learned how to surf.
Rachel and Thomas were partners in life and work. She worked at Thomas’ Chiropractic clinic and also
owned and managed Full City Rooster, a coffee shop in Portland. Together, Rachel and Thomas created
many cherished memories and a deep partnership as they embarked on their life together.
Rachel’s life was dedicated to her children and her family. She was a loving and caring mother. Her
dedication to her children inspired others to become parents themselves. She spent countless hours
volunteering at the kid’s schools. She became a fierce advocate for Type 1 diabetes when Leo was
diagnosed at a young age. Health was at the forefront of all Rachel’s activities. She was an instructor for
many fitness programs and was instrumental in introducing fitness to friends and family. Rachel had an
insatiable love for music, collecting and listening to records, and loved live performances. There was
nothing that Rachel embarked on that she did not master. She cherished her family above all else and
made everyone around her feel they were a part of hers. Rachel brought joy and light to everyone that
knew her. Rachel was the embodiment of unconditional love.
Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Leo and Ian Buckwalter, her two step-children Zan and
Jasper Grace, husband Thomas Grace, mother and step-father April and Paul Toomey and father Charles
Freiberger, mother and father-in-law Joe and Dorothy Grace, her former husband David Buckwalter and
former mother and father-in-law John and Nancy Buckwalter, her sister and brother-in-law Arielle and
Philip Trzcinski, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Laura and Alan Yarborough, and nieces Aella Trzcinski
and Grace and Elizabeth Yarborough, and Rachel's dog Omri.
A celebration of life will be held in Portland at the beach on Sauvie Island on May 1, starting at 8 pm.
