RACHEL THEO (Marlenee) SMITH
August 6, 1927 – August 28, 2019
Rachel was born in Modac, Montana to Leonard and Ellen Marlenee. She was raised and went to school in Scobey, Montana. She met Morgan Smith when he rescued her from a car accident and so their journey began. They married in January 20, 1946. In their early years of marriage they lived in Washington, Oregon and Montana. They eventually settled in Portland, Oregon where they worked and raised their family. After retirement they lived half time in LaPine, Oregon and shared a home in Portland with son, Forrest.
Her friends and family called her ‘Rae’, worked for many years at the Mill End Store in Milwaukie but was true to her role as a homemaker making sure dinner was on the table each night by 5:00. One of the many lessons she imparted to her family was her love of all things in the animal kingdom.
Rae was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years and son, Forrest Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Tabitha Smith of Aloha, Oregon; son, Colin Smith of Milwaukie; granddaughters, Vanessa Turner of Portland, Oregon and Chanel Daquila (Kalin) of Edmonds, Washington; extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and loyal friends plus her beloved cat, Jelly Bean.
A remembrance gathering will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Creekside Village, 5450 SW Erickson Avenue, Beaverton, Oregon 97005. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Oregon Humane Society. Arrangements entrusted to Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes in NE Portland, Oregon.
