Renee was a sweet person who was liked by everyone. Her main goal in life was to take care of the needs of her family. Renee Jean Bates passed away on July 9, 2013. She was struck by a school bus while walking across a busy S.E. Portland street.
On Halloween weekend, her neighbor's apartment caught on fire and the fire spread to her apartment. She and her husband, and 10 year old son, were forced to live in a hotel for 3 days while they fixed up another place for them to live. She lost all of her belongings in this tragedy and even lost her pet kitty who died from smoke inhalation.
In November, Renee was diagnosed with a benign brain tumour. She remained in critical condition at OHSU for 3 weeks while she recovered from surgery. She was released from the hospital and was home for not even a week when she became infected with spinal meningitis. She spent 4 more weeks in the hospital fighting to rid her body of this deadly infection. As a result, she lost feeling in her right foot and right leg.
Despite everthing that had happened to her; she still managed to keep a positive attitude toward life. Her last doctor's visit showed positive results and things were looking up for her and her family.
When I think about Renee many positive memories come rushing my way. She was a fun-spirited,young woman who prayed to God and who enjoyed life to its fullest. She was extremely talented at singing Karoke songs when she was in her early 20's. Renee also enjoyed swimming in a pool or in a nearby river or lake with friends or family. I know that is what she would prefer to do on a hot summer day like today!
A service will be held for her on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at 11:30 in the morning at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, which is located at the top of Mt. Scott. The web address is: www.lincolnmemorialpk.com.
