Dick was the youngest of six children born to David Daniel Kuntz and Beulah Olive McArthur.
It was often said that Dick grew up as an only child as his mother was in her forties when he was born with his siblings being much older then he. Dick loved his brother Chester, sisters Marie, Irene, Alice and Margaret and they in turn loved him.
Dick’s family moved to Oregon in 1930 in search of work during the depression. The family lived in Portland, moved to Grass Valley and back to Portland. Dick dropped out of high school at the age of seventeen to join the Marines in 1943. He served in the 1st Marine Division in the South Pacific on the island of Peleliu. Dick left the Marines in 1946 and returned to Portland. Dick joined the Army Reserves 1948 and was called back to active duty for the Korean War in 1950-51.
He was hired by the Portland Police Bureau, December 1946 where he worked for 33 1/2 years obtaining the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief and retired as Commander of North Precinct on July 8, 1980.
Dick was a member of the Elks, Canby Rod And Gun Club, Douglas Ridge Rifle Club, Life Member of the NRA and Masons.
Dick married Mildred Amber "Mickie" Vincent on February 14, 1949. Dick and Mickie were married for fifty years. They were buddies, they hunted, fished, golfed, shot competition riffle matches and had more trophies than they had room to store them. Dick often said that Mickie was the best friend that a man could have asked for. Mickie passed away June 26, 1999
On January 15, 2000 Dick married Doris Louise Rees. Doris brought the sparkle back into Dick’s life. Dick loved his Doris, he wanted her by his side all the time. They traveled together and were rarely at home. Dick would say pack your bag and Doris was ready to go. They often drove the back roads of Eastern and Central Oregon exploring new and old places. They drove cross-country to visit family and took an Alaskan cruise to fish. They had many common interests, knew the same people and had both worked for the Portland Police Bureau, they truly enjoyed each other's company. Doris was holding Dick's hand as he passed from life and went home to our savior.
Survived by his wife Doris Louise Kuntz, family and many friends.
