

Richard Lee Shoemaker lll (Rick) of Portland, OR, passed away unexpectedly on March 8, 2024. Born and raised in Portland, Oregon on October 19th, 1959. He grew up in the Laurelhurst neighborhood and went to Grant High School. Renowned for his unwavering loyalty and infectious humor, Rick’s compassionate nature and golden heart were evident to all who knew him. He exemplified the essence of family devotion, consistently prioritizing the well-being of his loved ones above all else.
Rick was married to Monica Shoemaker, with whom he shared a deep, forever love and friendship for 27 years. They had lots of adventures together and loved to cook together and travel. He was a dedicated father to his children Matt Eisele, Brittany Shoemaker, and Ethan Shoemaker with whom he coached sports, took camping, white water rafting, hunting and fishing. He was a cherished grandfather to Derek, Lucas, and Miles. He was dearly loved by his mother, Kay Haney, his step father Dale Haney, his father Richard Shoemaker ll and step mother Patsy Shoemaker, as well as his siblings Cindy McAllister, Jenny Borenstein, Michael Haney and wife Joanne Haney. He felt immense pride for his family and extended family, keeping them close.
Rick's career as a lumber broker spanned many years, showcasing his commitment and expertise in the cedar industry with Hampton Lumber. An avid outdoorsman, Rick enjoyed hunting, fishing, dirt bike riding, and working in the garden. He worked hard and played hard, often hosting clients at the Oregon coast, always making people laugh and being the center of attention. Rick’s friendships withstood the test of time and he cherished them dearly.
Rest in peace, Ricky. Your presence graced our lives with warmth and love, and your absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving you.
A memorial service to honor Rick's life will be held at 11:00am on April 6th at All Saints Catholic Church, followed by a reception at the Laurelhurst Club at 12:00pm.
