

Robert Newton Crawford was born in Shaw, Colorado to Effie and Jasper Crawford on July 10, 1920. He was one of nine children. He is survived by his sister Ruth Smith, his children Ron Crawford, Connie Kusch, and Dale Crawford. His wife Arlene and son Paul preceded him in death. He also has several grandchildren and great grandchildren. They moved from Colorado to Goble Oregon in 1938 where he graduated from Rainier High School. He met Arlene Hilborn in Rainier and they were married on July 12, 1942. He joined the U.S. Air Corp. and served from Aug. 1942 until Nov. of 1945. They moved back to Portland in 1946 where he resided for 70 years.
He had training in auto mechanics and machine operation. In 1952 he started work in drywall construction for Addington & Crawford. He and his son Ron started their own business ,R. Newton Crawford Inc., in 1971.
In 1961, he joined the Masonic Lodge. He joined many other organizations including Shriner's Al Kader mounted patrol, White Shrine, Eastern Star, Amaranth, VFW and others.
He enjoyed his acre of land. In the early years it was a mini farm with chickens, rabbits, a cow, a few horses and of course cats and mice; occasionally a pig for the pork. He also enjoyed having a garden and taking care of the yard. He was a good neighbor ; always willing to lend a helping hand.
He was a dedicated husband and father. He will be missed.
