Robert L. "Bob" Hiatt, 74, of Oregon City, Oregon, passed away on November 3, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family. Bob was born on September 2, 1950, in La Grande, Oregon, to Lois and Frank Hiatt. He grew up in Portland, where he graduated from Centennial High School. A proud Vietnam War veteran, Bob served in the United States Army from December 23, 1968, to January 17, 1972.
Bob married Debbie, on December 12, 1987, at Milwaukie Lutheran Church. Their story was one of fate, it began when Debbie moved into the house across the street, and after many attempts by their children to play matchmaker, and they finally took the leap and started their journey together. The rest, as they say, is history.
Bob had a varied and fulfilling career. He worked at Talley Communications in sales, later transitioning to a career as an engineer at Lakeridge High School. Bob also ran his own business. But it was his family that mattered most to him—he always put them first.
Bob had a zest for life that was contagious. He loved the outdoors—hunting, fishing, camping, and even drag racing. A true adventurer at heart, Bob lived every day to the fullest, with no regrets. His unique sense of humor and quick wit made him a joy to be around. He had a gift for storytelling, and his tales, often full of laughs, will be remembered for years to come.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie Hiatt; their children and their spouses, Angela and Jim Leeth, Toby and Nikki Hiatt, Shaun and Kim Davis, Amanda and Rory Brown, and Shane Davis; 16 grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters, who were the light of his life.
A private family graveside service with Military Honors will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 1:00–5:00 PM at the Rivershore Bar and Grill (Banquet Room), 1900 Clackamette Dr., Oregon City, Oregon, 97045.
Bob was one hell of a guy, and he will be missed by all who had the privilege of calling him friend, father, grandfather, and husband. Rest in peace, Bob.
