Thank you so very much to everyone who has shared their memories and kind words about my wonderful son. His loss has been nearly unbearable. Reading all of your messages has brought me a great deal of comfort, knowing so many people cared and thought so highly of him. Rob will always live in the hearts of those of us who knew and loved him. May God continue to bless and comfort all of us as we grieve and remember what an immensely positive influence Rob had in our lives.

Rob was such a witty, funny and kind person. He was a great son in law to us and a wonderful dad to our grandson Stephen. He will be greatly missed by us all, especially  Dan, Emily, and Stevie! You are in our hearts!                                                       Kathie & Steve Farrow💔💔

What a  loss, such a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor.
Rob and I were installing some communication cable at an intersection years ago, when he accidentally cut off the tip of his thumb with the utility knife he was using. True to form though, in pain from the injury, he joked about the importance of having good cup holders in trucks because you never know when your going to need a place to put a finger on ice in it. I guess you had to be there to appreciate the humor, but I do remember laughing with him all the way to the emergency room.  


I am deeply saddened by the news of Rob's passing. He was always very kind and friendly, his good mood was contagious and made you feel welcome. He will be greatly missed.

I am so sorry to learn of Rob's passing.  I worked with him at the City of Portland.  I remember when Rob started working for the City.  He was young, bright, and dedicated.  He was a friend and inspiration to his co-workers.  I remember him practicing on his trumpet for a song he planned to play for his wife.  Rob was always eager to learn new things, and he was an innovator - always looking for ways to improve things and to do his work in better ways. I am very sad for his loss!

Rob and I started working for PBOT just months apart almost 30 years ago and met when we took classes for job advancement. We really became friends when I transferred into the Electrical section in 1999. Rob had the quickest wit of anyone I’ve ever known and he was whip smart. He had unwavering integrity and wasn’t afraid to stand up against anyone  when he saw injustice happen. Over the years, we were office neighbors and shared many early morning chats and so many laughs. He spoke lovingly of his wife, Cyndi, and was so proud of his son, Stevie, and all of Stevie’s accomplishments, especially on the baseball field. I loved getting random texts from Rob on my day off when something struck him as particularly funny that he couldn’t wait to share. Rob, you’re gone way too soon and I already miss you terribly.

Rob is my second cousin. I remember when we were kids playing together with other cusions at a realitives house in Portland . It is great he touched so many lives. I grew up in the Seattle area so I didn't see Rob much but will miss him. He is family. 

I remember when Cyndi began dating Rob. She wasn't planning on falling in love so quickly, but he made her so happy. Thier families blended so well together.  It was meant to be.
As a couple, they were just so easy and fun to be with.  I will always remember his smile, chuckle and calm personality. They were always positive about each other and the family.
May he be in peace. 
And for Cyndi and the Family, may his love shine on you.
May you always have your love for each other to guide you through.
Always remember your friends and coworkers have you.  We will be here for you now and forever. 

 

What can I say about Robby? I think I will start by saying that he was the strength for me when I had none when we were children. He was my best friend as a child. We knew each other since we were very little. I remember having weekend sleepovers building model cars and playing games. We used to play basket ball in his driveway and he just kicked my butt at it. LOL. I was more a wrestler than a basketball player. Anyway, he really was a true friend to me. He never took life for granted. He excelled at school so much easier than I did. Kind of made me jealous  but at the same time he made me feel that I needed to try harder to be who I wanted to be. Most of my life I excelled at everything I had control of due to Robby. I owe him more than most could imagine. He was my best of best friends in the world. Life gets busy and people tend to disconnect but we all have our own way to stay connected inside ourselves. I wish I would have had the opportunity to rectify the absence of each other because I still love my best friend Robby. My condolences to his wife and children and his mom Carol and dad Andre who I knew well and miss as well. I was an usher with Robby at their wedding after all. My fond memories are also from baseball, in the early years when the boys were just learning the game.  I always looked forwarded to seeing Rob and his smile on the baseball field.  He truly cared about each of the boys and did what he could to make sure everyone was learning and having fun!!!  Even though we lost touch as our boys went their separates ways, I always thought about Rob (and Stevie) from time to time and that’s just a testament to what an amazing person he was….the fact he was always in my thoughts.  Rob is and will continue to be one of my favorite Baseball Dads.  

My first interaction with Rob was before I realized we were both PBOT employees. Rob was my hero the first day I met him. I was biking home from work one day and was hit by an SUV, who decided to drive through me to make a turn in an intersection. Rob was on the cross street, saw me on the ground, and with others checking on me Rob followed the SUV. Rob was able to get photos for the police to use to track the guy down. It wasn't until later conversations we realized we both worked at PBOT and had crossed paths via email chains.

I will always remember Rob for being an amazing person. His kindness to a stranger will never be forgotten.

This past Saturday, our Mountainside HS and Mound Time baseball families lost one of our own. Over the past couple of years, Rob and I shared countless conversations about our boys and baseball, and just life in general. Our boys are close friends, almost brothers in a way, working out together as pitchers, both sharing a passion for baseball and music. Rob and I would conspire on occasion to lift each other’s kid when they had a bad game or could use a little support from a different dad. Our boys often referred to us as the ultimate baseball dads; we definitely could be a little over the top, watching the occasional high school practice or scrimmage together from afar. We also would text each other play-by-play of games or scrimmages each other couldn’t make. When my kid was hurt or feeling ill, Rob would check in with me and offer words of comfort and encouragement, and I would do the same for his son. 

Rob, I will continue to be there for your kid, just as we talked about. I am going to miss you my friend.

Rob, I miss the time we shared together. I miss bragging about the kids. I miss your ability to see the good in people regardless of their behavior.  I miss when you came to visit me in the hospital. I miss how you helped me feel better. I miss coaching baseball with you. I miss your random texts. Most of all, I miss you my friend. 

I worked indirectly with Rob for many years. He was always very helpful and free with sharing his knowledge with me and others.  Always cheerful and would greet you with a smile.  He will be missed.  

I will miss you my love. The best times of my life were spent with you. 

Rob and I worked in different groups for the 10+ years I've known him. 

Sometimes when our work crossed paths it was to setup something new or to brainstorm ways to make things better for us or the technology we worked on. Rob was always wonderful to work with, smiling, humble, and willing to share his knowledge.  I don't even know how many other coworkers from other Bureaus I've sent to Rob because they were considering some new project that overlapped in some way with some work we did together.

More often though we'd work together when something was wrong and needed to be fixed immediately. In these times he was always calm under pressure and kept that smile.

He was one of my favorite people to work and I will miss him terribly.

Rob was a fantastic colleague and we will miss him dearly. We shared having attended Benson Tech in Portland, Oregon and had a love of technology and making transportation better for the public. He was instantly likeable at the City and was a friend to many.
Rob's attention to detail was appreciated. He was exceptional in his work and I will always remember his efforts to fine tune detection for bicycles on the Broadway Bridge, which he knew was important to me. 
I always enjoyed Rob's sense of humor and will always remember his constant quips related to my bringing donuts to staff meetings such as "moment on the lips, lifetime on the hips" and referring to donuts as "fat pills". He was always quick with feedback, especially when we needed to hear it and his delivery always incorporated humor which made it instantly more accessible and easy to take. 
Replacing Rob will be difficult, his knowledge will be greatly missed. 

Rob will be missed.  He was an important team member and was quick with a joke.  He was generous with his time with his coworkers.  Rob had great knowledge about our communications network, ensuring the traffic and camera networks functioned properly.  It will be tough to fill his shoes.  Rest in peace, Rob.
