

Bob graduated from Grant High School in 1951 and attended Willamette University for two years before transferring to the University of Oregon and earning a degree in Business Administration. He received a ROTC commission into the Air Force and served four years as a Radar/Weapons Intercept Officer in the 58th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. There, while on patrol, he survived being critically injured during a high-speed ejection in 1959.
Bob and his family have made their home in Portland since 1960. He and his wife Fran celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2017. Bob was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity in college and a member of Valley Community Presbyterian Church in Portland for most of his adult life, where he served both as a Deacon and an Elder. He also chaired and organized several of his Grant High School class reunions.
He taught science at Multnomah College while completing his Master's degree at Portland State University. He then taught science and coached several sports at Roosevelt High School for 24 years. He also had a brief career in construction where he built several custom houses around the Portland area. In addition to his family, Bob had many passions in life, including skiing, biking, traveling and Dixieland jazz festivals.
Bob is survived by his wife, Fran; sons, Bryan and David; daughter-in-law, Anne; grandchildren, Sophia and Ty; brothers, Bill and Rich Scearce; and sisters-in-law, Gail and Carol. He was preceded in death by his son, John in 1980.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at Valley Community Presbyterian Church, 8060 S.W. Brentwood St., Portland 97225. Memorials suggested to Valley Community Presbyterian Church.
