Robert Joseph Lazrine passed away unexpectedly at his home on May 26th, 2025. Known by many names, (Bob, Robert, Dad, Grandpa Dee Dee, Uncle Dee Dee, Grandpa D and Bobby Joe) he was an amazing example of a life well lived.
Robert grew up in Northeast Portland and was raised by his mother, Margaret. She was a wonderful woman who guided him and his sisters through difficult times the best she could. Later, he would join the Coast Guard to avoid Vietnam and with his wife Patti welcomed their first daughter, Andrea (Andee Pandee), in Corpus Christi before heading back to Portland. Robert and Patti had two more daughters, Elizabeth (Lizard Ann) and Molly (Molly Dolly). Even after they divorced, Robert continued to attend his children's major events and worked hard to make sure his children and eventually grandchildren knew that they always came first.
Over the years, Robert was a constant athlete, biking, running and playing on work rec teams, including one interesting year as his daughter’s softball coach- with absolutely no knowledge of the sport.
Music was the heartbeat of his life. He enjoyed playing multiple musical instruments. No matter the genre, he found joy in every note and always had music playing in the background. He passed that on to his grandchildren, gifting them instruments and encouraging them to explore the beauty of sound. His home was filled with music, laughter, and the belief that every moment was better with a song.
Robert had MANY friends, from his childhood “pie-napping” pals, to the participants of the Ziggy Madrone, to new and old in-laws-Robert was always the life of the party. The stories of his youth were legendary (keg on the front steps of Central Catholic or meeting your future in-laws at the jail after you let their daughter get arrested) but in reality, he overcame a lot of hardships to find true happiness with his wife Carol, in the one of a kind, colorful, music filled home they created together.
The man that never officially grew up had a love for funny gifts, jokes and making people laugh. When the pandemic made connecting difficult, he created the ‘5pm Facetimes’ with his daughters and grandchildren- who will forever be grateful that this tradition was able to create so many more memories.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret, his sisters Barbara Navaro and Kathleen Birch and his grandson Alec. He left behind his loving wife Carol, daughters Andrea (Jim), Beth (Michael) and Molly. Grandchildren Rian, Emma, Hannah, Jack and Ruby, along with countless other friends and family, and his beloved dogs Teddy and Louie. Robert was loved by many, so in the words of Robert, raise a glass and a potato shooting gun and celebrate his spectacular life.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to passitonnola.com a nonprofit collecting donated instruments and gifting them directly to New Orleans children, making sure old trumpets, clarinets, and drums find young loving homes.
Please feel welcome to share your condolences, memories, and cherished photos on this page to be seen by Robert’s family, friends and loved ones. Your contributions will be greatly appreciated.
