Robert John “Bud” Resner was born May 17, 1924 in Gascoyne, ND to Emanuel and Martha (Lange) Resner. The family moved to Camas, WA when Bud was a young man, and he attended high school there. He served honorably in the US Army in Europe during World War II. In 1949, he and Dorothy Engler were united in marriage, and they lived together in various neighborhoods in Portland for the rest of their lives. Mr. Resner worked in refrigeration service and manufacturing for Rhodes Refrigeration, retiring in 1987. He was a talented woodworker – having made grandmother and grandfather clocks out of cherry wood from a tree he had cut down himself, among many other pieces. He loved to camp and fish, and the family made annual trips to Wickiup Reservoir. Bud and Dorothy were members at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, and later at Trinity Lutheran. He was always willing to help others, and the couple was able to make friends with anyone. He will be greatly missed.
He was the last of seven siblings, and is survived by his wife Dorothy, children Michael Resner and wife Sue, Sandi Payne and husband John, and by four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A committal service with full military honors will be held at 12:30 pm on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. The family would be grateful for donations to a veteran’s cause of the donor’s choice.
