January 19, 1930 - February 15, 2020
Bob began his life journey in McMinnville, Oregon on a very snowy day in January, 1930. He was the 1st-born son of Samuel & Merle Rich. Two brothers - Donald and Bruce followed in quick succession. A fourth brother, Sam Jr., completed the family several years later.
Bob was raised in a Christ centered family and he gave his life to Jesus and was baptized at an early age. His whole life proved to be, in his own quiet way a testimony to God & his love for his family. He was a third generation nurseryman. He had a great love of the outdoors and growing anything green. We employed a lot of Latino crew in the nursery. They loved to tease him with their spicy food, especially HOT soup. They were disappointed when he would tame down the hot with his peanut-butter & jelly sandwich.
After high school, Bob attended Linfield College for two years. He joined the Oregon National Guard at this time, and served for 11 years. In 1952, he met a girl from the hills of North Idaho. He told her that he had been praying for her for years. He and Marylyn were married in 1953.Three children came from this union - Chris, Robin & Miriam. Then eleven grandchildren, and now 20 great-grands. What a legacy!
Bob had a great love for missions and was able to go on several mission trips. A trip to Brazil in 1999, to an orphanage was always his favorite and we have helped support several children through the North American Baptist "Chain of Love" program.
After selling the nursery and retiring, Bob and Marylyn bought a Dodge Ram pick-up and a 5th wheel trailer and set out to see America, including a 6 week road trip to Alaska. He also discovered his artistic side and has made dozens of little wooden animals. Many of you have been the recipient of one of those animals.
Now he has gone to his eternal home and though it leaves us lost & saddened, we know where he is and we anxiously wait and carry on until we meet with Bob at Jesus' feet.
