Ron was one of a handful of people I encountered during my time with ICSCC that gave meaning to the term "larger than life".

As they say, it was a wet and dreary day in 1969 that Ron and I met for the first time as competitors in Formula C cars.  I spun in the rain and could see him laughing as I went off the track.   A few minutes later, I passed  him as he spun.  Later we competed against each other in Formula Atlantic cars, mine being Ron's former car.  He was always quick to offer assistance in setup and maintenance, but once on the track, we drove hard and cleanly against each other.   Ron's driving could be called ‘dramatic' but off the track we exchanged ‘zingers' as Ron could dish it out as well as take it.  Claudine was not only a supportive wife, but also the crew chief and keeper of all of Ron's records.   Ron gained some publicity when a reporter was astonished that Ron was that fast…..at over 50 years of age.   He would be more than surprised at the speed Ron drove a few years ago at 72 in a faster Formula Atlantic car.   I drifted to other types of cars but still at each racing meet we spent many hours together, a big part of the fun of racing.  The relationship I had with Ron was longer than with any other driver.  Ron was an intellectual willing to discuss anything, also a popular administrator in the government emissions program and an avid bicycle rider.  In the 50 or so years Ron raced, his only serious injury came from falling off his bicycle, shattering his hip.  Ron now joins his soul mate, Claudine……. Godspeed Ron, I will miss you.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.
