Ron Pirtle, born on August 15, 1955, to parents Ted Pirtle and Ella Sullivan in Portland, Oregon, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, in his hometown of Portland. Ron’s life was a testament to hard work, love for family and friends, and a passion for adventure.
Ron’s early years were spent in Portland, where he attended St. Charles Elementary School before continuing his education at John Adams and Parkrose High Schools. His dedication to learning extended into his professional life when he earned three Applied Associate degrees from Mount Hood Community College while participating in an apprenticeship program at Boeing.
A mutual friend played matchmaker when they introduced Ron to Linda by giving him her phone number; and after months of phone calls, their first meeting was at a ZZ Top concert—a moment that marked the beginning of their lifelong partnership. Together, they lived on the Columbia River for ten years before settling into the Argay neighborhood of Portland, where they built lasting friendships within their community.
Ron’s career journey was as diverse as it was fulfilling. After trying to be a real estate agent, he found his footing at Simonds Saws until its closure. He then worked at various machine shops before securing a position at Boeing, where he spent ten years and eventually transitioned into an office role. Later in his career, Ron became the IT Manager for Onboard Systems in Vancouver, Washington—a role he held until his retirement in 2020.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ron embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. In his early twenties, he became a pilot and also took up skydiving—two pursuits that reflected his adventurous spirit. At home, Ron enjoyed building furniture and working on cars, skills lovingly passed down by his father. He had a knack for fixing things around the house and took pride in creating a warm and welcoming home for his family.
Ron cherished time spent with loved ones and friends. He was known for playing poker with his close circle and maintaining connections with friends from all stages of his life.
Family was at the heart of Ron’s life. He is survived by his beloved wife Linda; daughters Tanya Hearn (Chris) and Carly Cripe (Jon); brother Ray; grandchildren Brandon, Echo, Dakota, Tristan, Cary, Morgan, Addison, Trinity, Alex, and Ryder; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Ron’s warmth and humor left an indelible mark on those who knew him. Known for saying “Oh well whatever!” or joking about working at “Ron's Pace,” he brought lightheartedness to every situation. Above all else, Ron was a devoted family man who deeply loved each member of his family and every friend he made along the way.
May Ron’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him as they celebrate a life well-lived filled with love, laughter, and adventure.
Family will be hosting a Celebration of Life for Ron on August 8th from 1pm – 4pm at East Portland Moose Lodge – 16411 NE Halsey St. Portland, OR 97230
